Temptation - all, half or nothing?

Satan tempts us at the point of our physical needs, not that we might gratify them to excess, but that we may think of nothing else, and gratify them at the expense of our usefulness in this world.

Satan tempts us at the point of our ambitions, not that we might engage in positive evil, but simply accept the fact of evil, learn to live with it, come to terms with it and maintain a discreet silence in the presence of it.

Satan tempts us at the point of our religion, not that we might disbelieve in God, but that we demand certainty of God, that kind of certainty which leaves nothing to faith, nothing to God Himself.

These are the moral struggles that have reality for people such as we are.

The subtle temptation to renounce our duty in favor of that which is attractive – that insidious allurement to a kind of half-goodness, which is the essence of everything bad, and which is more productive of suffering and hatred and war and misery in the world than all the designs of wicked and greedy men combined.

STUNNING: My King's High School miracle: the next "Hoosiers" - Saved for a Reason

This past weekend we saw a documentary that melted me to tears. The King's basketball coach, who for years was the state-championship stepchild, had won the district championship and riding with the King's team on the bus home in February 2015.

On the off-ramp from I-5, brakes failed and the bus speeded up. The coach heard the bus filled with prayers: for survival, for salvation. The coach instantly knew his life would forever change: death, injury, paralysis.

The crashed and turned over.

Some minor injuries, bruises, and the coach's back pain.

The following school assembly, the whole team, spared from death, talked about a miracle.

They ordered T-shirts: "Saved for a Reason - Loving God; loving others.

The opposing team bought T-shirts with the same message.

KING-5 News recorded the testimonies.

A producer came up to the coach: "This is more than basketball, isn't it?"

Three weeks later the perennial runner-up WON...THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

But it wasn't all about basketball.

It was about changed lives.

CONFESSION: I HAVE AIDS

Can't hear your kids/grands anymore? Do you pretend to hear them and nod your head. Time to hear your most precious loved ones. I've tried several hearing aids. Amplified cheaps. Miracle Ear. Military at 1/6 the cost (turned them in for a refund). NO! The best in the world are Costco's Kirkland Signature hearing aids for 1/3 the cost (yes, some cost, around $1800). They run off my smart phone. I change the volume, background noise, treble and bass on the phone. Calls coming in? Only I hear them in my aids. Stunningly rapturous music? I (only) hear them in flawless stereo. In my aids. YOU need them. You love your offspring. Start hearing them. Today. P.S. Batteries are cheapest at Costco.
